Sir Barton won the Belmont Stakes, becoming thoroughbred horse racing's first-ever Triple Crown winner, on June 11, 1919. (Sir Barton had already won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.) Fifty-eight years later (on June 11, 1977), Seattle Slew accomplished the same feat on the same calendar day.
Perhaps coincidentally, A Day at The Races, starring the Marx Brothers, was first shown for moviegoers on June 11, 1937.
Triple Crown Day offers a super occasion for visiting the racetrack, watching a horse racing moving (such as Dreamer, Hidalgo, National Velvet, Racing Stripes or Seabiscuit).
If you head for the track, be sure to read Horse Race Survey: Equestrian Entertainment, a guide to the various types of horse racing.
