This holiday most likely began with the annual Michigan Asparagus Festival, held on or near this date each year. The event includes farm tours, parades, races, rodeos and more. Even Little Mr. and Miss Asparagus contestants are crowned.
Wherever you live, you can celebrate this great green occasion by enjoying fresh asparagus, served hot or cold. It's in season and so healthy. Fat-free and cholesterol-free, asparagus is simply loaded with vitamins A, B6 and C, as well as fiber, folic acid and potassium. We like our lightly coated with Olive oil and seasoned with Lemon pepper, then baked a bit. YUM!
